If you are an applicant of HSMP post March 31, 2009 , please have a look at the new HSMP tier 1 rules for HSMP applicants applying from Delhi, Chandigarh, Gurgaon, Noida, basically all over India.

These rules for India updated with changes which happened on March 31, 2009.

The Highly Skilled Migrant Programme, the HSMP permit, can give those individuals who have high level skills the ability to come to the UK for 3 years (earlier 2 years) and then keep extending it within UK itself. Finally you are likely to be provided the indefinite leave to remain status which is the final step towards immigration into UK . Tier 1 General  operates on a points based system. You must get at least 75 points. Points are based on your age, qualifications, earnings and UK experience/ studies... Everything has to be supported by original documentation and you may fail if one document is not provided. Have there been any recent changes in HSMP visa filing procedures ?

Yes indeed. For one thing, the format of the form for HSMP class of visas has changed but is actually more objective. For another, all UK visas applicant go through biometric scanning from December 12, 2007 onwards. It will involve finger scan and digital photograph. This is nothing to be worried about but may make the visa process a little longer. Further changes to UK immigration  have been carried out on 31 March 2009 - these constitute some changes to the new point based system eligibility.

Can't I do this myself - Why do I need an HSMP / Tier 1 General  Visa Consultant

  • OK let me answer this very neutrally. Yes you could try filing for an HSMP visa yourself. But there is a reason why you are seeing so many websites/ newspaper ads advertising consultancy services. Although the tier 1 general visa  seems straightforward, the evidence needs to be compelling and a case for HSMP approval needs to be made. Then there is the 2nd step of HSMP entry clearance which again requires professional consultancy
  • Think about it this way. Is it worth saving 35-38 thousand extra for all the tension and possibility of being rejected or delayed. This amount saved is not even worth a weeks salary in UK once you reach there. However the choice is always yours - whether you file yourself or hire a consultant.

Finally, although HSMP is probably the most flexible and sophisticated option for a long-term career in UK , don't despair if you do not seem to satisfy the required criteria.
