Why go to UK and How Asians are treated there?
I am adding this section after I have had
talk with a number of customers whose main concern these
days seems to be "will I be treated right as an Asian
there". I think this thoughts are coming more from
what we keep hearing nowadays about controversies in UK
about expression of religion etc. Please understand UK is no
more or no less a safe place than USA or Australia. As an
immigrant it is as much your responsibility to assimilate
and integrate into the country as is theirs ! I have lived
in UK for 2 years and i never faced any racism. I did face
some small measure of racial discrimination perhaps, but
don't you face any discrimination in India! The amount of
discrimination that society tries to effect is immense:-
what job you have, how much you earn, are you a girl or a
boy, which caste, which religion, which state, which party
affiliation, own house or not, own car or not, going to
discos or not, how much dowry received, how much dowry
given, do you have relatives in US/UK or not, are you
English medium or not, working in mnc or not etc.. etc... I could go on and on!
UK is facing a small problem today
because certain people in some parts of its society,
don't want to integrate , yet want to live there and enjoy
the benefits. This is impractical. Bottom line is , settling
in a new culture and society is difficult and takes effort ,
but the benefit are immense. If you want to live a life in a
professional environment, follow rules, have a minimum
acceptable standard of living and enjoy your life, UK offers
a great opportunity. Who knows , you may be the next Lakshmi
Mittal ! So, UK is no better or no worse an opportunity than
say settling in Australia and USA, it offers similar
standards of living and the earnings part is what you make
through your skills. Remember, you are more in control of
your life than the country you are in.
